This is a fun and engaging lesson which teaches and explores the features of dystopian literature in the opening of 1984, considering the idea of totalitarianism and character’s viewpoint.

There is a also a fun resource for letter writing where students will need to consider narrative viewpoint and the contextual reasons why certain information may or may not be revealed. This links to wider skills in KS3 and makes students really consider the intended and actual reader and the choices they are making as an author.
