Designed for City and Guilds ESOL skills for Life 4692 but relevant for a wider scope of learners, in this activity, learners first discuss unusual transportation methods from a picture stimulus and discuss superlative related questions (should be review at this level). Learners analyse an exam task, plan their answer and then look at a model answer. Learners process the text for meaning and extract advantages of e-scooters. Then generate disadvantages with their partner. There is language input with useful phrases drawn from the text, vertically extended, and they write their own examples. A vocabulary matching activity, punctuation noticing activity, a grammar task to use if to support and extend ideas. Learners write their own letter from the exam question previously planned. There is then a post-writing checklist, which can be used for peer feedback if desired.
