An example Conquering the Monster Tale with feature identification worksheet (plus answers) and planning worksheet for pupils to create their own story.
The story is based on the structure of the second half of The Iron Man novel by Ted Hughes when a monster (Space-Bat-Angel-Dragon) appears and causes problems, the monster is difficult to defeat, is defeated by the Iron Man, and all is well again.
- Pupils read the exemplar story as a WAGOLL.
- Pupils identify the features from the text.
- Pupils identify the structure of the story.
- Pupils compare the structure of the example story with the Iron Man (or any other conquering the monster tale)
- Pupils plan their own story based on the structure of the example text.
