This is a unit of 5 planned outdoor learning/forest school sessions for EYFS. The children will explore the natural world around them and create art using natural materials. They will be encouraged to interact with the outdoors, giving them freedom to touch, smell and hear the natural world around them during hands-on experiences.

Each session has two adult focus activities and a range of enhanced provision ideas.
The planning overview below includes five learning sessions with the following focus/themes:

  1. To use our imagination – a stick is not just a stick!
  2. To create a self-portrait using natural materials
  3. To explore the flora in the environment and make a nature crown
  4. To explore leaves through printing
  5. To use natural objects to create a home/shelter for an animal

I am an EYFS Lead within a primary school in North East England with several years of experience teaching across the foundation stage. I have a passion for outdoor learning and I am a qualified Level 3 Forest School Leader. Through outdoor learning, I offer the children within my setting regular opportunities to develop confidence, self-esteem and knowledge of the world around them through hands-on experiences within the natural world.
To promote a life-long love of reading and to build vocabulary and language comprehension, each of the outdoor learning sessions I deliver is taught through a linked story.
