First Lines in Literature

This presentation designed for potential use as a teacher led starter or plenary activity in English. Students are presented with the first line from a major literary work and, by discussion and consideration of the text, attempt to identify the work.
Activity can be extended into a creative writing exercise where students are challenged to write their own “first line” for a variety of genres, horror, romance etc, The whole presentation contains 20 challenges with 42 slides and hyperlinks are embedded throughout
