Creation of a coloured pattern or picture on a ten by ten grid builds student confidence in conversion between Fraction, Decimal, and Percentage, it also allows for student choice in the level of difficulty by extension to simplifying fractions and using half squares to contribute 1/200, 0.005, 0.5%. This has worked really well for me with lower ability year 7, who then displayed this work in the classroom.
