This two-page French activity worksheet presents a history and discussion of Australia Day. It aims to equip students with the vocabulary and structures to discuss elements of culture, and more widely, themes of social engagement. The tone is factual and neutral, with a fourth section on perceived controversies that could form the basis of wider class discussion on decolonisation and similar topics.
The worksheet comprises four short texts along with comprehension questions and glossaries of key words for each.
The language level is around A2 on the CEFR scale, with plenty of cognates designed to encourage gist-reading longer texts.
A third page including suggested model answers is supplied.
Trigger warning: discussion of colonial themes.
