This bundle of up-to-date and detailed teaching resources has been created to support staff and students in building up skills to tackle the ‘speaking’ and ‘writing’ units in the new EDEXCEL French GCSE (The skills and strategies are relevant for all exam boards). They have all been used extensively with students over the past 2 years with excellent results at both Foundation and Higher Level.
These are resources which can be used for parts of lessons, whole lessons or be part of a scheme of work. All the resources can be adapted to meet the needs of the students in your class. The bundle includes:
• A colour ‘Grade Changers’ Learning Mat for GCSE students (Grade Changers are language structures i.e. different tenses which score students high marks in the spoken and written examination)
• A presentation showing strategies and modelled answers for tackling all 3 questions on the FOUNDATION written paper and QUESTION 2 in the HIGHER written paper.
• A bank of opinions for each THEME and sub-theme in the GCSE syllabus (which could be laminated as a learning mat)
• A presentation showing strategies and a modelled answer for the Picture Based Task
• A presentation with 10 phonics strategies to integrate into your lessons to improve students’ speaking skills
• Model questions for each of the 5 Themes in the EDEXCEL syllabus on PowerPoint and PDF (excellent for sending to students to complete as Homework or to print out as a booklet) and also 3 Themes for AQA
- Detailed scaffolded answers for each theme
- Differentiated for Foundation and Higher students
- Criteria for language to include to score the highest marks
- A range of different questions for each theme so all students do not have the same question
- Excellent for practising/revising for the Conversation, Picture Based task and the crossover writing answers (Question 3 Foundation/ Question 2 Higher)
- A PowerPoint for the Foundation and Higher questions is included with exam criteria. These can be printed off on one side of A4 paper so students can peer assess each other.
• A spontaneity strategy presentation with a focus on ‘time gaining’ phrases for students to use when they are thinking of their answers
• A detailed presentation with a range of ‘Que penses-tu de……?’ and ‘Préfères-tu ……ou ……? questions with possible scaffolded responses. This is excellent as a starter and can be easily integrated into Key Stage 3 lessons
