This Halloween special resource is specifically designed to support students preparing for the new MFL GCSE, focusing on basic French vocabulary, comprehension (with in-built retrieval), and writing skills. Aimed at students aged 11-14 with beginner to lower-intermediate proficiency, it uses a fun, Halloween-themed story about Max and his siblings to engage learners. The tasks are designed to help students understand simple French sentences, build their vocabulary, and practice sentence structure.

The worksheet includes four carefully crafted tasks:

Reading comprehension with questions in English, allowing students to demonstrate understanding of key details from the text.

Fill-in-the-blank exercises that focus on key vocabulary from the story.

A 90 word retrieval task to solidify writing skills.

Sentence-building tasks that encourage creativity while using simple French phrases.

The resource also includes a Help Box with translations of 10 key words from the text, making it accessible for students who need extra support. It provides an hour of engaging practice that reinforces key language skills, aligning with the requirements of the new MFL GCSE exam.

As a bonus, there is a free Halloween themed French wordsearch attached. The lesson will last for a minimum of one full hour (probably at least two hours) and is perfect for cover (no French needed for the teacher) or just a fun, Halloween-themed lesson.
