A great game for your FLE course. Would you like your A1-A2 learners to enjoy learning about the most important means of transport? Download this wonderful educational sheet in PDF and Powerpoint format.
Warm-up:
Playing this game your A1-A2 students will learn to do and say many things. But first of all, patience, patience… You have to know and learn some things before you start. First of all, you have to know the means of transport because this is the base of the game! You give them the card on which the means of transport appear without the names. It will be up to them to fill it in. It is important that they keep this card with them during the whole course.
And then the next step. What preposition do you use before a means of transport? The answer is very simple.
- When you can get inside you use en.
- When you can’t get inside, you use à.
For example: Tu voyages à cheval ? Non je voyage en avion. They will have the opportunity to work on this with a small exercise.
Procedure :
Then explain to them how to use simple questions. Ask them to follow these guidelines:
Est-ce qu’on + peut / doit / risque de + one of the 24 sentences they will have on their sheet.
For example: "Est-ce qu’on peut manger des spaghettis ? "
(Eating spaghetti is one of the 24 sentences)
Finally, you will need to know how to answer a question in the positive or negative form. This is why there is a mini-lesson about negation and an exercise. They will be able to answer the previous question for example: “Non, on ne peut pas manger de spaghettis”. You only explain that negation goes around the verb.
The transport game :
It is based on the famous game "Who is it? Your learners work in pairs. They have to pick a card that you have cut out previously. They take turns asking each other questions. For example:
José, your student, chooses the car.
Josette, the other student, asks: “Can we go to the toilet?”
José answers: “No, we can’t go to the toilet”. and must ask another question directly after that. This continues until one of them guesses the other’s means of transport. The one who guesses wins the game. The winner must say, for example, “You are travelling by plane”.
This game for EFL can be played in pairs or in teams of two or three students.
