This four-page French activity worksheet presents a potted history of Robert Burns, and explores Burns Night traditions in Scotland. It aims to equip students with the vocabulary and structures to discuss elements of Scottish culture, and more widely, themes of celebration and national holidays.
The worksheet comprises four short texts along with comprehension questions and glossaries of key words for each. A third page features a typical Burns Night itinerary, with further comprehension questions, and a fourth features a gap-fill and definitions exercise.
The language level is around A2 on the CEFR scale (ideal for a proficient Year 7 and Years 8/9), with plenty of cognates designed to encouraging gist-reading longer texts.
In terms of language topic link-ups, the vocabulary in the worksheet feeds well into Food and Drink, Friends and Family and Special Occasions.
