A 46 slide interactive lesson focusing on GCSE English Language (AQA) Paper 2 Comparing writers’ viewpoints and perspectives looking at both the reading and writing section looking at natural disasters. Achieve a grade 9! The lesson will focus on Laurie Lee’s The village that lost its children (Aberfan) and a text looking at a London earthquake. Lesson is in depth and covers questions 1 to 4 in the reading section, breaking down each question, analysing inference and naming techniques to build up a plan for students to answer questions. There is also a grade 9 piece of writing that links to Q5 where students have to highlight the techniques and discuss it’s effectiveness. Students will be asked to complete their own piece of writing having been given some top tips on how to achieve grades 7,8,9. Resources, powerpoint and model answers included. Also links in British values for a discussion and includes a 12 minute clip from The Crown covering the Aberfan disaster.

The lesson will cover Q1 List 4 things, q2 summarise the differences, Q3 language analysis and exploding inference, Q4 comparing writers’ viewpoints and perspectives, and Q5 expressing viewpoints. Students will be asked to self assess themselves on the reading and writing section.

Lesson objectives:

-To complete Q1-Q4 in the reading section and Q5 in the writing section (teach, discuss, answer) focusing on individualised higher grade answers

-To discuss ideas and develop and extend interpretations/comparisons and link in British Values

-To organise and perfect PEE paragraphs

-To develop vocabulary and inference to achieve a grade 9 in both reading and writing

-To recognise the importance of applying features of AFORESTRIP and SPAG in Q5 writing to express viewpoints and perspectives

-Read and highlight techniques from a grade 9 piece of writing

-Write and express viewpoints and perspectives using sophisticated techniques and crafting

-Self-evaluate our confidence with the reading questions and the writing question
