Every day in the run up to the GCSE exams we are intending to put up two GCSE problems of the day on Twitter. Here are the files you can use in the classroom. For each problem there are some variations that you might want to use instead or in addition.
The first problem is suitable for foundation and higher and the second is suitable for higher.
The first problem involves finding ratio of amounts and seeing if there is a enough money in a jar. The alternative provided gets students to add some coins and then work out the new ratio.
The second problem involves students finding the length of a side of an right angled isosceles triangle given only the hypotenuse and then they have to find the area. The alternative is a bit more involved and you have to find a length.
