A versatile English worksheet to help students practise finding themes in literature
This 3-page English worksheet asks students to create hashtags for sets of images but in reality students are practising how to identify themes in a text. Perfect for engaging those students who are struggling to identify overarching themes or infer the deeper meaning behind a text.
Page one has an example, then some easier prompts that the student must respond to. Page two has a whole list of potential themes to support them with this – also useful to use generally! Page three has some harder prompts for the student to work on.
This worksheet will likely require some support – especially if it is used as more of an introduction to themes with younger children.
Suitable for UKS2 or KS3.
I have used this effectively with students up to Y9 – it’s also perfect for the transition to GCSE and as starting point for comparing texts.
