I like to have sets of super simple worksheets that I can give to my young beginner learners of German, not only when they’re new to the target vocabulary, but also for refreshing and revising language they’ve learnt some time ago. Students can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image, and it’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell the time. I give my students these worksheets when I’m introducing the time set in German, so that they can practise and embed both recognizing the time, and writing the time phrase itself. Students really enjoy the opportunity to test their recall too.

The worksheets are useful in a number of contexts: I use them for cover lessons, as starters, plenaries, five-minute refreshers and home learning activities. I occasionally use them for more formal assessment purposes too.

Students also find this How to tell the time in German quarter past the hour list freebie helpful:

The ***Reference, Recall & Write*** book has 18 pages. It includes an alphabetical ***German-English*** reference list of all 99 words & phrases. The recall and write challenges help students familiarize themselves with, and really embed, the range of vocabulary in the set, and also get used to reading, writing and spelling in ***German***. My students use their recall workbooks several times, simply covering previous answers. This means that prep and paper are kept to a minimum. ***There are three written recall challenges in the workbook:*** = Challenge 1 students write the English word or phrase from a German prompt, with all the words and phrases grouped together in the same category = Challenge 2 with this challenge, students write the words or phrases in German from an English prompt, and again, they're all group together in the same category = Challenge 3 the final challenge ‘switches’ at each question from German to English, and lists words and phrases randomly from each category. This challenges the memory more than when the vocabulary is in the order learners first learn it in, with the additional challenge of moving between the two languages = Meine Notizen und Neuer Wortschatz encourages students to reflect on their learning and to note any new vocabulary they may learn Laminate the game cards if you can as they're more learner-friendly, and they will remain in excellent conditional for years. ***Have a browse in my store for more German resources, including special offer bundles and freebies.*** **VIELEN DANK UND VIEL SPAß IM DEUTSCHUNTERRICHT!**

GERMAN TELLING THE TIME I HAVE, WHO HAS? BUNDLE

**GERMAN FOR CHILDREN PRIMARY GERMAN KS2 GERMAN KS3 GERMAN TELLING THE TIME I HAVE, WHO HAS? 3 SETS OF TWO GAMES @ £2.50 EACH IN THE BUNDLE : 6 GAMES AND CHALLENGES, EVERY ANALOGUE CLOCK TIME** ***Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The product is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be amended, copied, rewritten, shared or distributed, in whole or in part, outside your own classroom. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use.*** Lively whole-group multi-skill language learning games, ideal for ***Primary German / KS2 German*** and ***KS3 KS4 German*** students. The repetitive nature of the questions and answers, supported by the visual prompt of the clock faces, makes it perfect for practising, reinforcing & refreshing ***how to tell the time in German***, and for pronunciation practice too. Students often find ***half past in German*** quite challenging, similarly ***fünf vor halb.... and fünf nach halb...*** to denote***25 minutes past and 25 minutes to***, and they definitely benefit from frequent and regular targeted practice. = Set 1: focus on o'clock, half past, quarter to & quarter past the hour = Set 2: focus on 5 & 10 past and 5 & 10 to the hour = Set 3: focus on 20 & 25 past and 20 & 25 to the hour There are 8 clock faces per page, and I cut the cards in sets of 2, so four larger cards per page. This means that students can see two clock faces and times per game card, which really helps to consolidate learning. It’s also a lot less prep than cutting out eight individual cards, though I do actually have a set like this, which we use as a larger-size dominoes game. I always laminate my language learning cards - it’s definitely worth the extra prep time and expense, as they’re more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years. The aim of the game is to arrange the clocks in the relevant order. Students will generally have several cards each, depending on the size of your class. We usually set the cards on a table, so that students can see the timeline clearly. I frequently use a timer when we play. Playing in teams, using either a single challenge, or with both challenges together, is really popular - students find the competitive element really motivating and are genuinely keen to see which team can finish first, and whether they can beat their own time record. The games also work well as pair or small-group games. ***Each set has two games, each with a different challenge:*** = Challenge 1: with all the the clock times in numerical order, Ich habe... Wer hat...? = Challenge 2: with the all the clock times in random order, which really helps recall and embedding new language, as students often learn time phrases in numerical order, Hast du...? Ja, (Nein) ich habe... ***Have a browse in my store for more German resources, including special offer bundles and freebies.*** **VIELEN DANK UND VIEL SPAß BEIM SPIELEN!**
