• This teaching resource explains the work of Dr Karla McManus, a visual arts researcher at the University of Regina, Canada. She is exploring how bird photography has shaped ornithology and conservation.
• This resource also contains an interview with Karla and offers an insight into careers in visual arts. If your students have questions for Karla, they can send them through the Futurum Careers website.
• The activity sheet provides ‘talking points’ (based on Bloom’s Taxonomy) to prompt students to reflect on Karla’s research and challenges them to create their own visual artwork to raise awareness of an environmental or social issue.
