This resource is a whole lesson/lesson plan for Year 8 Maths teachers who teach Index Numbers (Index Laws), specifically, power of a power. It will help you teach a smooth lesson even if you do not have a strong mathematical background. Just run the PowerPoint.

• Develop the ‘power of a power’ index law using positive integer indices

How to use it

The lesson format is in a PowerPoint file. There are symbols to prompt certain actions in the lesson. They have the following meanings:
• WARM-UPS: There are questions from the last lesson. It is a good idea to start with these examples. No more than 10 minutes.
• W: Write from the board
• I DO – Teacher does the question (step by step solution).
• WE DO – Teacher prompts students to participate, asks questions and helps them with solutions where necessary.
• YOU DO – Students work independently.
