The article describes the importance of working-class Victorian poetry during the Lancashire Cotton Famine, an interview with English lecturer Dr Simon Rennie, and examples of careers available with an English degree.
The activity sheet includes discussion points - seven questions the students can answer in groups or individually - and ideas for activities that are relevant to English studies.
