KS3 Myths and Legends Descriptive Writing

This is a six week unit of work based around the theme of Myths and Legends. The focus of the unit is on improving the fundamentals of a student’s descriptive writing. The unit is sequenced to gradually add more skills to a student’s descriptive writing. The resource comes with four weeks worth of fully resourced powerpoints (unit assumes the final two weeks are spent planning/ drafting/ self-assessing and improving an assessment piece) and a mid-term plan to provide focus for teachers. It would be ideal for Y7/8, but would also work with LA Y9.

Outline
Week One: Improving vocabulary choices and using synonyms for effect
Week Two: Improving verb choice and utilising language techniques
Week Three: Varying sentence openers, using different sentence types and sensory language
Week Four: Show, Don’t Tell and Structuring an extended response
Week Five/ Six: Assessment Plan/Draft/Improve/Review
