KS3 Tectonics Introductory Lesson - The Structure of the Earth

Fully resourced Key Stage 3 lesson on the structure of the earth, including the four layers (crust, mantle, outer and inner core). The lesson is designed to last between 50 minutes to one hour, however could be adjusted easily to be taught in 30 minutes.

The lesson pack includes a powerpoint with teacher notes relating to each slide and worksheets ready to print. The lesson activities include an engaging starter, filling in a table with key information, colouring and annotating a blank diagram of the earths layers and an exit quiz to act as a plenary. The lesson pack also includes an interesting information sheet that will provide most of the knowledge for the lesson, students will use this information to complete the main activities.

The lesson is suitable for years 7, 8 or 9 and has extensions built into the activities to provide differentiation. A optional homework activity is included.
