Based on Grade 4 of the Common Standards, this introduction covers the first part of decimals, but is suitable for any age group that is ready for this level, or for a recap at a different level. The recap is based on simple fractions. The main part covers the basics of counting up and down in tenths and recognising that tenths arise from dividing an object into 10 equal parts. Everything for the introductory lesson, including a recap of simple fractions on paper or slideshow, a main class demonstration/discussion show on decimals, and lots of activities for the learners. Plus lots of places for learners to engage with concrete examples and a plenary.
