This experiment shows that a cathode ray is made up of particles with a constant ratio of charge to mass (e/m). A magnetic field bends the cathode rays into a closed circle.

The link is to the IoP 'Practical Physics' website. The word doc is the text from the website. There are lots of helpful tips to aid with this potentially difficult experiment. I would recommend being assisted by someone who has used the equipment before as the apparatus is very expensive, fragile and potentially hazardous! The method is also rather assumed -e.g. having Helmholtz coils to provide the magnetic field. Summary - good for tips, but not suitable unless you are already relatively familiar with the equipment.
