Mock Election Activity

WHAT IS IT?
A mock election activity ideal for teaching how different electoral systems produce different results. This particular package allows your students to explore:

• First-Past-The-Post
• Supplementary Vote
• Alternative Vote

All formulas on the Excel workbook are left unlocked for you to edit and develop as you see fit.

HOW TO USE:

• Recommended to use 30+ ballot papers for each election
• Encourage learners to buy into the fiction of ‘Gourmet North’ scenario when casting their ballots
• Task learners with both conducting the vote and counting the results
• Record data on Excel sheet
• Learners should then be able to identify problems of complexity for AV voting and comparatively wasted votes for FPTP.
• Depending on complexity of count - activity should take between 60-90 minutes.
