This resource has been designed for Entry Level 3 students working towards Functional Skills Maths qualifications at Level 1 (Edexcel-Pearson, NCFE, City and Guilds, AQA, Highfield Qualifications, NOCN, Open Awards). It contains a 42-page workbook and a 120-slide PowerPoint lesson on money.
The resource will help pupils to achieve these outcomes:
convert between pounds and pence
calculate simple interest in multiples of 5% on amounts of money
calculate discounts in multiples of 5% on amounts of money
solve real-life money problems

The workbook contains 20 explanation pages, 30 worksheets, 2 progress checks and a certificate of achievement. It is provided in PDF format and an editable PowerPoint version to enable editing of the resource. It can be used for classwork, homework, revision or as an independent learning pack.
PowerPoint Lesson
The editable, 120-slide PowerPoint lesson clearly explains how to convert between pounds and pence, how to calculate percentage increases and decreases (interest and discounts) and how to use these skills in solving real-life money problems. The PowerPoint contains many examples and opportunities for students to practise these skills. It is an ideal resource to introduce the money component of the Entry Level 1 specification and for revision purposes.
