This is a supportive tool to help students recognise, show and regulate emotions. They give a language to how the young person is feeling. ‘I am feeling yellow today.’ They also give strategies for trying to overcome their mood as they can be made into a back-to-back flip pad which goes in the students pocket.
Two slides have examples of mood scales. However, they need to be individualised to the particular student you are working with (see blank copies).
The techniques for overcoming the moods should, ideally, come from the young person with support from the adult. If we write it in their language, they will own the techniques.
