This resource is a collection of ideas to help students work on multiplying and dividing fractions.
Including:
Multiplying Fractions 4 in a Line Game
This activity is to give students a chance to review multiplying fractions by fractions in a fun game activity. They must play in pairs to multiply fractions until they get four blocks in a row.
Multiplying Fractions & Discovering Reciprocals
This matching activity encourages students to think about a more varied set of situations where we need to multiply fractions, including multiplying fractions by integers and the need for cancelling.
It is then followed with an activity that leads students from multiplying fractions to thinking about how to find pairs of fractions that multiply to make 1 - i.e. to discovering reciprocals.
Multiplying & Dividing Fractions Match
This activity focuses on helping students to recognise equivalent calculations. They have to match calculations that result in the same answer, by noticing that multiplying by a fraction is the equivalent of dividing by its reciprocal.
Dividing Fractions Missing Numbers Puzzle
This activity requires students to work out the missing numbers to make a series of statements about dividing fractions true. It progresses to include some cases of division with mixed numbers.
All activities include answers.
