Students can have fun decoding real and nonsense words with an Easter theme. Provide the students with a hook such as - the Easter Bunny has mixed up his eggs (real words) with carrots (nonsense words) and he needs your help to sort them.
There are 2 levels of words to choose from using 1 bunny as a symbol for the easier cvc words and 2 bunnies for the more challenging cvcc, ccvc and split digraph/magic e and the ee sound.
There are 2 activities provided:
A sorting card game so students can practise sorting the words in pairs or small groups first.
Then students can show their understanding by completing the independent will cut and paste activity.
Once they are finished they can have fun scanning the QR code to check their own work!
