Each lesson focuses on why the Normans built castles and this is the subject for the first lesson. The next two lessons look at Motte & Bailey and Square Keep Castles. Students knowledge and understanding of the topic is then built on through lesson number four by getting them to write a persuasive formal letter explaining to a Norman Lord why he should replace his Motte & Bailey Castle with a stone Keep.
