Primary English Bundle: Advertising/Creative/Descriptive/Persuasive Language
3 page Word document 'Fairy-tale Times' newspaper template which students have to complete with illustrations, interviews, news event summaries, celebrity news and an advert. This may be useful as both a literacy and an ICT exercise.
6 page Word document with 4 x tasks which challenge students to write a 'quick-start' guide in the form of a leaflet for a rocket, advertise the rocket to potential customers, argue for against the use of a rocket by the general public and to write a letter of complaint to the rocket manufacturer. Would be particularly suitable for younger English language / ESL students or those with particular learning needs. Hints and tips about using persuasive language and structuring arguments are provided.
A 7 slide Powerpoint is also included which discusses (in simple terms) the typical aims and techniques used by advertisers and the likely and intended effects upon consumers.

Students also have to research the meaning of highlighted words and phrases. The descriptions are intend to promote concepts of diversity, acceptance, and social justice.

Tasks include carrying out research on a variety of nature and literature related topics so as to answer a series of questions, editing/writing cat stories, providing advice to 'readers' about animal care, judging a cat show, deciding on the most appropriate products for different 'readers' based on individual requirements, designing a collar to a specification chosen by the student, choosing correct pronouns, prepositions and antecedents, completing a crossword, designing a fashion layout, and correcting homophones. One of the key learning ideas in the booklet relates to how people and animals may communicate non-verbally/by using body language.
