A set of 6 worksheets to introduce factorising quadratic expressions using the area model with algebra tiles. I have used this method to introduce my students to what I call the reverse box method of factorising. They really seem to enjoy and understand factorising quadratics including questions involving a>1, which I don’t teach as a separate topic.
Worksheets include:
- Rectangles given: find the are as a sum of all the tiles plus the product of its dimensions
- Model the tiles in a diagram and find the sum and product of the tiles
- Find the dimensions and represent the diagram in the ‘reverse box method’
- Factorising using the ‘reverse box method’
