These resources are good but I did not find any focus on Islam.
To make use of the resources you need a video from the 1984 famine. This can be found on the following link
-
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/8315248.stm
It is important, if using this harrowing video, to alert the classes to the fact that climate change is caused by Global Warming, which is caused by industrialisation in the rich world - but its impact is most acute in the poor world. Here, in Ethiopia, drought had caused the harvest to fail for three years.
There had been warnings for months that this disaster was looming. Why do you think nobody did anything to prevent it?
It would be great to follow a lesson like this with an exploration of Bob Geldorf's response and Live Aid. We are not helpless in the face of suffering. Even one individual who has a sense of oneness and love can make a real difference to the lives of many.
Two interesting questions to ask when looking at natural evil:
Does the suffering make you question the existence of God?
Does the fact that when we see suffering we care, we feel concern and compassion, we want to help - and perhaps manage to do something which reduces the suffering - strengthen your faith in or make you consider seriously - God's existence?
