Segmenting and Blending CVC Words Fun DICE Spelling Games

Looking for fun blending and segmenting games to spell CVC words? Get your (EYFS) reception children excited to practise early reading skills and say, segment, blend and make words with the letters on the dice to match the pictures. They will love these activities which will help them to recognise consonants and vowels and choose the correct ones to build the different words.
Why choose dice rather than get pupils to write? Some children at this age may find writing tricky as they have not yet got the fine motor control to use a pencil accurately and can get frustrated easily, however we still want them to practice spelling. Building words using these dice makes ‘writing’, or spelling, fun.
You can also use these as a Memory or Pairs game by printing the words and pictures and finding the pairs. Alternatively print out the words twice and match them.
Use these games to revise and consolidate learning about blending and segmenting CVC words in fun ways. Pupils will become more confident and fluent in their spelling and reading.

You will get: 3 games which have:

• dice - 2 dice with consonants plus 2 vowel dice
• words in colour with the middle vowel in black
• words in colour with the middle vowel in black plus 3 dots under the 3 letters and arrows to show the direction of reading the word
• words in in black and white to print directly to the back of the pictures for instant self-assessment. ( The words are ‘handed’ compared to the pictures so that you should be able to print this back-to-back with the pictures).
• a table of which words are being used (Game 1 - 43 words, game 2 - 40 words, game 3 - 30 words. Please note that some words are used more than once).
• instructions how to play the games - i.e. match the letters to the word or match the letters to the picture
• teaching notes
• patterns for the backs of words in case you would like to have a player read the word and the others spell this
