Why was the Selective Service Act important for the United States’ involvement in World War I, and how did it change the U.S. military? This lesson and activity examines the background and impact of the Selective Service Act and the draft during World War I. Students will analyze primary and secondary source documents. They’ll then answer corresponding scaffolding questions. They will answer the final summary question to apply their knowledge.
