The aim of this mind map is to present self-assessment as it is seen from the viewpoint of international contemporary theory and research, in order to investigate the potential that this strategy can have and the contribution that it could make to pupils’ learning.

It explains the self-assessment process and the principles that lie at its foundation and then, it covers the controversial issue of implementing self-assessment effectively in the classroom.

The mind map also includes an analysis of the current thinking in professional development in relation to formative assessment.
