SEN ‘Me in the World’ Unit - Refugees and Asylum Seekers
A 6 week unit including planning and differentiated Widgit (Communicate in Print) resources. Work is differentiated for a wide range of children to access - I am currently teaching children working at mainstream Y1 - Y5.
Unit of work includes:
- To investigate and know the terms ‘migration’ and ‘immigration’.
- To investigate and know the terms ‘refugee’ and ‘asylum seekers’.
- To explore the reasons behind becoming an asylum seeker or refugee.

To investigate and know the terms ‘racism’ and ‘extremism’. -
To demonstrate the different advantages to community diversity. -
To explore and identify different ways I can show respect and tolerance towards different cultures.
Each lesson starts with a practical/verbal task and then a written task which can be completed with an adult, as a group or independently depending on the needs within your class.
