A great little game for EYFS and KS1 for speaking and listening and extending vocabulary and understanding.
Here are 48 discussion cards to encourage children to think and talk about what they see.
There are 4 cards to a page which can be cut out and laminated if you want to reuse them.
There is also a sheet showing all the 48 pictures.
Ideas for activities:
- Show the children the full sheet of 48 pictures and ask them to identify pictures showing opposites e.g. number 33 - open and closed bin, 48 - empty and full Christmas stocking and 44 - sick or well.
- Children work in pairs with a set of cards to discuss. Pairs or small groups could then share their findings with the class e.g. 31 - both baskets are the same but one is full and one is empty or 24 - both animals are bears, one is large and one is small. Did any other children find a card with a similar theme?
- Children could write the number of the card they are discussing and then one similarity and one difference they find.
- Cards can be sorted into different types of opposites e.g. cards 18, 29 and 31 are all Full and Empty themed.
- Children can make up their own cards with drawings or pasted pictures to show they understand the concepts.
This resource is also good for those learning English or other languages, children are encouraged to speak in sentences.
