A ready to use lesson (from KS3 upwards) to meet the PSHE/SRE Statutory Curriculum. Editable Powerpoint with 60 minutes worth of material.
Learning Intentions:
• I can compare the effects of smoking and vaping
• I can examine reasons why young people smoke/vape
• I can propose ideas/actions to prevent young people from smoking and vaping
The Lesson includes:
PowerPoint -11 slides
Resources Code Cracker slips, Smoking v Vaping Table Sort, Smoking Worksheet and the History of Smoking Comprehension Strips (all made using Word)
The lesson teaches students about the history of smoking and how it increased in popularity to become the norm. It also requires students to compare the effects of smoking to vaping. Myths about vaping are debunked and comprehension levels are tested when students watch the video that details the health risks associated with smoking. Students are challenged to examine reason why young people start smoking or vaping and are stretched to propose ideas/actions that could be taken in the UK to prevent young people from smoking or vaping. The law regarding age limits is also signposted. Videos are embedded into the PPT. There is one worksheet to go with the effects of smoking and a page of question which need to be cut into strips and given one per student
PowerPoint and resources are in comic sans, with size 14 font and slides have a yellow background to ensure that it is SEN inclusive. The lesson includes differentiated learning tasks that challenge students to be critical thinkers. The lesson includes assessment for learning opportunities and develops wider literacy skills.
The PowerPoint has teacher notes with suggested teaching ideas and questioning, as well as suggested timings. The Lesson and resources are non-specialist friendly.
Tried and tested lesson used by both specialist and non-specialist staff across inner city schools in the Northwest.
If you want to save time and want all your resources in one place, why not download the Student Workpack for this lesson, which has everything included which can also be used to ‘catch-up’ absent students and support lower ability students.

Excellent resource - after a mix up with one of the worksheets the author was really helpful and I now have the full compliment of resources. Thank you.

There should be 4 resources. I have checked and each one is a different resource that i have uploaded. I have queried this with Tes as this is not the first time i have had this feedback. Send me your email on here and i will email it to you. I am totally baffled why this is happening. Thank you for letting me know.

Thank you for getting back to me, I have now managed to play the video, but the 2 worksheets (History of smoking and smoking worksheet) are the same. Also on your PPT there is a worksheet shown on slide 5 but not in the package, or am I not seeing it?
Many thanks in advance.

Hello. I am very confused as to why there are no worksheets/resources as they are showing as uploaded on my end. There should be a sheet with slips that you cut and give one to each student on the history or smoking . There is then an actual worksheet too, to learn about the effects of smoking. The video is embedded so in slide mode you click on the image and the video will play. It is not a separate video download. Please check again and let me know so i can contact Tes to review.

I have checked and all resources are available with the download. The first video is the history of smoking and there is a resource called 'The history of smoking comprehension strips'. These are to be cut as slips/strips for students to answer as they watch the video. The second video (the animated one) also has a resource called 'Smoking worksheets', which is also with the download. Both videos has the necessary resources to go with them. Please can you check again alongside the powerpoint and then amend your review. Videos are embedded into thr actual PowerPoint. If you still do not have them we will need to contact Tes as they are showing as available and part of the download on my end and this will need to be investigated. This lesson has been downloaded and bought many, many times with only 3 queries, all of which are of the similar nature regarding the worksheets being 'missing', i am unsure why as they match the imah
Ges/task instructions on the PowerPoint slides and are described in the teacher instructions in the notes section on the PowerPoint. They are also clearly labelled and titled as such when downloaded. Please let me know how you get on. Thank you

Hi again,
The Do it now task is the code cracker strips, which is downloaded.
The first worksheet activity needed for slide 2 is the history of smoking comprehension questions. This the sheet where there are comprehension questions about cigarettes and smoking. The sheet has these questions 4 times and are to be cut as strips or slips and given one per student. This is showing as uploaded on my end.
The second worksheet/activity is mentioned on slide 5 and there is a picture of the sheet on the slide. These are the effects of smoking and have images next to each question. The teacher notes mentions a workpack, this is a separate downloaded for people who buy the workpack edition of this lesson, yet the powerpoint is the same as so is the teacher notes which is why it says 'If using the workpack this is included for you'. The activity is exactly the same apart form this lesson and its resources are all in a booklet form with some extras, which is why it costs more to buy.
The third resource is the card sort (mentioned on slide 6) which there is a sheet which has vaping v smoking and they have to sort the facts into the correct column. A picture of this is on the slide.
I have triple checked and all of the resources are uploaded and labelled correctly, there are no duplicates.
Please can you check again and let me know if this description helps and makes sense. On my end everything is showing as correct and in order.
Thank you

Hello. Can i assume that as I have not had a reply that the issue has been resolved? Thank you

Would be five stars but the worksheet to go with the second video is missing. It is saying it is there in the file but when clicked on it is actually the same question sheet to go with the history of smoking vide.

Hello. Thank you for the review. I have checked and both resources are available with the download. The first video is the history of smoking and there is a resource called 'The history of smoking comprehension strips'. These are prompt question strips to be given to students and have been uploaded for you to download. The second video (the animated one) also has a resource called 'Smoking worksheets', which is also with the download.
Both videos has the necessary resources to go with them. Please can you check again alongside the powerpoint and then amend your review. If you still do not have them we will need to contact Tes as they are showing as available and part of the download on my end. Thank you

Really great resource, however the 'demonstrate your knowledge' worksheet is missing. Would be five stars with it.

Hello, thank you for the purchase.
The worksheets are there I have just checked. They are called 'Smoking Worksheets'.
'Demonstrate your knowledge' is just what I have titled that slide-not the actual the worksheet. All resources for this lesson have been uploaded and are accessible.
Please can you check again and then update the review?
Thank you

Reasonable resource but there seems to be a worksheet missing which is required in on one of the slides. For this reason I am disappointed.

Hi. Apologies for this. Can you let me know which resource it is so that I can check it and amend? I can also locate said file and ask tes can send it to you.

Hello. I have since checked (and triple checked) and all of the resources are uploaded with the download. I can only assume you are referring to the teacher comments under each slide in the PowerPoint ,which states 'if you are using the workpack this is included'.
This note is is meant for those that have downloaded the workpacks and the lesson, in which case they dont need any resources or worksheets as they are all together in the student booklet. This note is included in the normal lesson sale, as the powerpoint is exactly the same for either purchase and saves making two separate powerpoints.
The resources needed for this lesson, which are uploaded and come with the purchase:
-Smoking code cracker
-Smoking v Vaping table sort
-Smoking worksheet
-The history of smoking comprehension sheet
Please let me know if you do not have these as this is then a technical issue for TES to address as they are showing as uploaded on my end. I have had this lesson purchased by other people who havent mentioned any missing worksheets, so TES will need to look into it.
Thank you and i am sorry for the confusion.
