Spreading our Wings After Lockdown Lettering

Great first week back lesson after returning to school after lockdown. A fantastic display coming from a very relaxing Health and Wellbeing and Art & Design lesson.

Inspired by the lovely @teachingintechnicolour, we read Ahmed and the Feather girl which lead to a discussion about children’s rights. We explored the rights that had been impacted during lockdown in Scotland and how that could influence our mental wellbeing.

Later I taught the children a variety of watercolour techniques and they used them to decorate a feather. Thia was a great opportunity to get to know them better. Abstract art is great at the beginning of the year as it lets children grow in confidence in their ability and not compare their work.

My stagey and I created installation you can see in the picture in our corridor and every child enjoyed getting a photo in front of the wings. Great first week back activity.
