Designed to accompany the Ted Hughes poetry anthology for CIE AS English, but will be appropriate for any senior study of the poem Cadenza. This lesson starts with a cryptogram explaining what a cadenza is, encourages students to consider the connotations of the title, suggests useful vocabulary and language techniques for the poem, sets comprehension questions looking at framing, connotation and punctuation, and gives relevant contextual detail. It also includes student-created slides that analyse the poem in closer detail.
