The Big Lunch: Creating a community event

Pupils receive a challenge to participate in a community gathering. In preparation, pupils work in groups to identify the special features of community gatherings across the UK. The class draws on their learning to design a new community celebration based around a famous person, special place or annual event. They devise additional features to enhance a community event, such as special costumes, food or music and dance. These activities and resources have been devised to promote an inclusive and multi-cultural approach to learning across the curriculum and can be easily adapted.
