Deepen your pupils’ understanding of the text and get them practising their writing with this The Iron Man themed resource.
Pupils read two example texts based on the children’s science fiction novel The Iron Man (also known as The Iron Giant) by Ted Hughes. One text is written from the point of view of Hogarth and the other from the perspective of Hogarth’s mother.
After reading relevant section of Chapter 2 (extract included), pupils examine the features of Hogarth’s first person account (answer key included) and then continue either of the example texts or write their own from the point of view of a different character, such as Hogarth’s father, either of the farmers or even the Iron Man himself!
