The outstanding “The Great War” Channel drills down into the treaty and its background: the Allies’ conflicting desires, Clemenceau, Foch, Poincare; Wilson, Curzon; the terms, the treaty, the ultimatum, the crisis, the signing. Was the treaty too harsh? – historical revisionism; did it lead to WW2?

Video description: The Treaty of Versailles was the first of the big peace treaties after the armistice of 1918. In just six months the allied powers had – without talking to the defeated powers – negotiated a new world order while trying to make sure Germany would pay reparations to rebuild. The German delegation was only informed about the peace terms a few weeks before signing the Treaty and they were shocked about the terms. In May 1919 they even considered not signing the contract at all.

20 questions for the 26-minute film (my link omits 1’ 35” of funding requests at the start). Differentiated! Both versions look very similar, but “B” version has subtle clues. Questions right up to the end, no slack time! Creates a great intro / revision / summary resource. Answer sheet. Very easy to mark. .doc & .pdf for all files.
