Understanding and Using Databases
This Unit could be taught at Key Stage 2 or Key Stage 3 (Year 7-8).
This unit introduces the students to Microsoft Access. It includes 9 lessons that involves students exploring the software whilst understanding the basics. For example students are asked to:
Explain what a database is and its uses (give examples)
Understand both paper based and electronic databases
Design and create a Superhero Database from scratch
Add and edit records in the database
Ask the database questions in order to search
Create different types of queries to search (basic, multiple and Boolean)
Produce a report to show evidence of understanding
Unit includes an overview of all the lessons and an overall teacher/students assessment checklist.
