Develop children’s ability to visually discriminate between letters. Children are asked to cut out boxes with either single or double letters and then match them to the same letters by sticking.

These activities should ideally be provided in conjunction with formal teaching of the alphabet. Not only is the ability to discriminate between letters an important skill for learning the alphabet but also a valuable pre-reading skill where children need to learn how to distinguish between letter and word shapes. It is not necessary for children to know their alphabet when undertaking the activities in this workbook as the emphasis is on the distinction of letter shapes.

The letters that children are required to cut, match and stick on each page are as follows:

abcd
