Engage your students with our 5-stage reading comprehension activity and deepen their understanding of how other languages have shaped the English language! Every reading follows the same process:

Please note: The narrative stories included in this resource are also sold separately, so please be mindful not to purchase both resources.

In the first stage, students read the informational text, either alone, with a partner or as part of a small reading group or center.
In the second stage, students answer the 6 multiple-choice questions designed to assess their comprehension of the informational text.
In the third stage, students prepare to read the narrative text by matching the ten vocabulary words with their correct definitions.
In the fourth stage, students read the narrative text, either alone, with a partner or as part of a small reading group or center.
In the fifth stage, students answer the 6 multiple-choice questions designed to assess their comprehension of the narrative text.

This bundle contains:

8 informative texts that discuss a specific language and its significant impact on the English language (Latin, French, German, Greek, Spanish, Italian, Arabic, Dutch)

In each language, there are ten vocabulary words and definitions that originate from that language

Each language includes a single narrative text that uses all ten vocabulary words.

Two versions are available, one with the vocabulary words highlighted in bold and the other without, to allow teachers the option of having their students identify and highlight the vocabulary words as an additional activity

12 multiple-choice comprehension questions (6 per reading) for each language
Answer sheets
Answer strips for students to write their answers on (optional)

In order to use this resource multiple times, it is recommended that the texts, the assorted vocabulary matches and comprehension question and answer sheets are laminated for durability.
