Y6 Recounts writing unit based on 'What Mr. Darwin Saw'

This writing unit, which consists of 14 planned sessions, focuses on the life of Charles Darwin and would be perfect taught alongside a unit on evolution which forms part of the Year 6 science curriculum. This writing unit focuses on recounts – diary (first person, informal); a formal biography for an unknown audience and a news recount. It also includes an opportunity to hold a debate about whether Darwin was right to publish his work – The origin of species- and concludes with the children writing a news article outlining the events of its publication.
