This lesson looks at mammal life cycles as part of the National Curriculum topic ‘Living Things and their Habitats’ for Year 5. It has strong links with both maths and literacy. It was originally taught as lesson 2 in the sequence, but it could come anywhere within the topic.
Children carry out some research into animal gestation periods using the provided sources, then plot their findings on a scatter graph to determine whether there is a link between animal size and gestation period.
