6 figure grid references

(26)
This lesson allows students to build on the skills they acquired with 4 figure grid referencing. There is another group activity using the local OS maps (please change for your area). The 'how confident are you&' gets students post-it note their name on the tree to show where they have climbed to in the lesson.

A whole lesson on 4 figure grid references. The group activity is based around the OS maps that my school receives of our local area so you can change these questions if you would like to do it for your local area. Get them to do it with whiteboards and they will love the competition!

Lots of interesting activities relating to map symbols. One of the worksheets is particularly good for higher ability students as they have to use grid references also. Students love the mystery activity in my experience.

Soft engineering

(5)
A lesson which looks at the advantages and disadvantages of the main 6 types of soft engineering methods. The table also has a differentiated version for those students who have literacy needs. This resource could also be adapted and used at GCSE.
Hard engineering

Hard engineering

(3)
An activity which gets students looking at the advantages and disadvantages of hard engineering techniques along the coast. With higher ability students I also get them to think about sustainability. You can stick the fact sheets in the PowerPoint around the class room or get them to pass them from group to group. The table also has a differentiated version too.

A whole lesson on teaching direction for year 7 map skills topics. You may want to change the map on the worksheet to one of your own area. The wording is also more for a more able set.
