I currently teach IGCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Also A level Biology. The resources I produce for my lessons are carefully planned and I try to involve a lot of self-learning to allow students to develop these important skills needed for further education.

2 lessons looking at the causes, symptoms and treatments of 2 deadly diseases.
Edexcel Spec link 6.6
There is plenty of opportunity for class discussion and links into history for both diseases.
I have included graded tasks in both lessons as my students enjoy working their way up to the higher grades.
Edexcel Spec link 6.7 (i) (ii)
An introduction to how bacteria are able to spread from one person to another. We then look at how the body protects itself against pathogen entry. This is a circus activity where students gather information from around the room (cards provided). Finally we research how bacteria cause the disease with endotoxins and exotoxins.
This resource focuses on Edexcel specification link 6.11
It introduces the different types of immunity.
There is a video resource and questions to check understanding.
The information cards can be printed and put around room for students to collect information to make it more interactive. I was short on time so I went through them on the board as students made their own notes.
Tow power point lessons which look at the action of antibiotics on bacteria - bacteriostatic and bactericidal. Also, how natural selection has made certain bacteria resistant to antibiotics and why this has occurred.
There are activities for the students to promote active learning plus video resources and questions.
This series of lessons covers:
The basic principles of cellular respiration
The importance of cellular respiration in the production of ATP
The site of glycolysis, krebs cycle and oxidative phosphorylation
The main stages of glycolysis, Krebs cycle and oxidative phosphorylation.
Anaerobic respiration
Respiratory substrates and respiratory quotient.
Each power point is a complete lesson which includes activities and exam style questions to check understanding.
A level Biology - Control of the Internal Environment
4 Powerpoint lessons covering:
The principles of mammalian hormone production by endocrine glands
The mode of action of hormones
The production of metabolic waste
Osmoregulation
Kidney structure and function
Urea production
Thermoregulation
2 lessons focusing on Edexcel specification link 2.7
The first lesson is an introduction to enzymes and naming enzymes
The second lesson focuses on how they work and factors which affect the rate of reaction.
Edexcel Specification 6.17 - 6.19
Two lessons which takes students through the process of how the polymerase chain reaction works and how gel electrophoresis can produces banding patterns.
There are opportunities for class discussion and tasks for the students to complete. I have also included a video which discusses DNA fingerprinting.
A series of lessons which focus on homeostasis and muscles.
Students will study
the structure of skeletal muscle
Fast and slow twitch muscle fibres
The sliding filament theory
The role of actin, myosin and ATP
The myogenic nature of the heart
ECGs
Homeostasis and negative feedback
Control of heart and breathing rate
Edexcel Topic 1 spec points:1.10, 1.11, 1.15 and 1.17
2 power point lessons with lots of information and independent tasks to allow students to develop their knowledge.
4 lessons focusing on the non-specific and specific responses to infection.
I have split the lessons into 4 parts due to the subject material being very complex.
The lessons cover Edexcel specification links 6.8 - 6.10 but can be used with other exam boards
The lessons have many different opportunities for assessment and recalling previous learnt material.
A series of lessons that students can complete in class or at home. It is an introduction to the first units studied and builds on previous knowledge learned at GCSE.
Lessons include:
Describe the structure of the atom and atomic particles
Calculate mass number and atomic number
Define the term isotope
Explain what is relativity and why do we compare to carbon 12
Define relative isotopic mass, relative atomic mass, relative molecular mass and relative formula mass
A level biology lesson exploring how a changing climate can lead to the evolution of a species.
Learning outcomes
Understand how evolution can come about through gene mutations and natural selection
Understand how isolation reduces gene flow between populations, leading to allopatric or sympatric speciation
This is a complete lesson which includes individual and group tasks for students. There are also exam questions to check understanding.
A complete lesson which introduces the terminology used in Ecology lessons. We also explore how abiotic and biotic factors can affect a habitat. There are questions to check understanding of knowledge learnt plus independent learning activities.
Learning outcomes
Recall what is meant by the terms population, community, habitat and ecosystem
Understand that the numbers and distribution of organisms in a habitat are controlled by biotic and abiotic factors
Understand how the concept of a niche accounts for the distribution and abundance of organisms in a habitat
A series of lessons which support the Pearson textbook for the international AS level (edexcel).
These resources are also useful for online lessons to aid student’s understanding at home.
Covered in these lessons:
The need for a circulatory system
The importance of surface area to volume ratio
The advantage of a double circulatory system
The structure and function of blood
The role of platelets in blood clotting
The role of haemoglobin in transport of oxygen and carbon dioxide
The structure of the heart and the cardiac cycle
Atherosclerosis
I have included different activities, some individual and some which could be within a group or with a partner. Plus exam questions and tasks to check understanding.
A level Biology lesson looking at the structure of ATP and its role in cells
Lesson objectives:
Describe the structure of the molecule ATP
Explain why ATP is used by organisms
Describe the role ATP plays in the cell
There are a series of exam questions included to check understanding
2 lessons focusing on the process of fertilisation in mammals including the acrosome and cortical reaction. In plants, formation of the pollen tube and then double fertilisation.
Activities include video, diagrams and exam style questions.
2 complete lessons focusing on understanding the role meiosis plays in creating gametes. It focuses on independent assortment and crossing-over.
Students have an opportunity to study each phase to compare meiosis to mitosis.
The second lesson studies the adaptation of gametes in both plants and animals. This will lead onto sexual reproduction in subsequent lessons.
Marine Science AS (exams in 2022)
Water: Particle Theory and Bonding
An understanding of particle theory, including the structure of atoms and ions, and how they bond together to form compounds, helps to explain the properties of water and other substances important to marine life.
A series of 3 complete powerpoints (approximately 5 lessons worth of material).
Includes explanations and students tasks.
