When we teach mindfulness to children, we are equipping them with the tools to help manage stress and approach life’s challenges. Mindfulness can help to shape key critical skills that are developed in early childhood. These include the ability for children with attention to task and retain information, shift between tasks and displaying appropriate behaviours. These abilities are known as executive functions and they are essential for more advanced tasks like planning, reasoning, problem-solving and developing social relationships. This “Mindfulness Portfolio” includes everything that your students will need to get started on their mindfulness journey. This portfolio is divided into six individual lessons. My Self-Esteem Spider Web - Counseling Mini Lesson

(0)
This Mini-Lesson explores positive self talk which is the key to building self esteem… Persistent low self-esteem can impact an individual’s life in many ways. The constant exposure to negative feelings can trigger depression, anger, guilt, shame, anxiety or sadness. These emotions can feel overwhelming at times. One way that can really help is to change the negative self-talk into positive self-talk. This in turns help to build self-esteem. By improving self-esteem, the student is better able to emotionally regulate which serves to improve many areas of their lives. This mini-lesson serves to change the negative self-talk scripts that students often gravitate towards and move to a more positive and constructive self-talk script. The example of a spider and its web is used. The more you tell yourself NEGATIVE self-talk, the more it will stick. The more you tell yourself positive self-talk, the more it will stick. Just like a spider catching food in it’s web. Once it’s caught…it’s hard to get out. So, the students are empowered to make a choice - to have either positive or negative self talk stuck in their web! This resource includes many self-talk affirmations and scripts that the students can read and include on their own “self-esteem” spider web. They can choose which ones they want to apply to them. Included are a couple of reflective exercise activity sheets to help students to reflect and gain insight into what is happening for them. SPANISH VERSION - Let's Pause - Impulse Control Anger Management Game

(0)
This creative and printable board game has been developed to provide a foundation which explores a vital executive functioning skill - self-control and impulse control. “Let’s Pause” is a growth mindset board game which is great for students who may struggle to think before they act, who present with difficulties associated with ADHD or students who could benefit from considering the consequences of their actions. Using the analogy of a “remote control” students are asked to reflect on their behaviour and the impact when they can -“pause and stop” and think about their behaviour -“fast forward” where impulses take over -“play” when you can just keep going -“rewind” when they can take a step back after our impulses have got the better of us and think about the consequences. This game encourages reflection and psycho-education around impulse control, self-control, emotional regulation and anger management. There are over 115 reflective question cards with 23 cards in each of the five various color-coded areas. These include: - Reflect – practical and relatable scenarios to help put learning into practice - Let’s Pause – reflecting on impulse control and its impact - Better Choices – exploring emotional regulation, coping strategies and strategies - Let’s Chat – conversation starters to build rapport - Anger – exploring anger management This is a great game which is a perfect supplement for our Impulse Control “Let’s Pause Mini-Lesson” Check out some of our best sellers below! SPANISH VERSION Grief Memory Jar Lesson - Coping with loss death Activity Craft

(0)
This lesson helps students personify and project their grief onto their own monster that they create with the therapeutic aim to reflect and gain insight. This intervention asks students to create a representation of grief and give it a name. By externalizing grief, it becomes something that they can deal with and manage. It is no longer an abstract idea that they have no control over. It becomes manageable. Everyone grieves differently and experiences different emotional reactions. Some may not want to discuss while others may want to share memories of their loved one. Therefore, it is important to allow every individual to express themselves as much as they feel comfortable doing so. This activity supports the individual to do this. This therapeutic intervention requires the therapist to be very curious and unconditionally accepting of the Grief Monster that the student creates and imagines. Remember the vital role of empathy and at the end of the intervention sincerely thank the student for sharing what their grief looks like as a monster to support integration. Further discussion ideas for integration might include exploration of the themes and trends that arise during this intervention. This resource includes: Therapist Notes We are sorry for your loss… What is grief? How does your body feel today? What feeds your grief? Getting to know your Grief Monster?
